Lupus Awareness Month and This Isolation Life

Four years ago, I posted a series of info-posts on Facebook on Lupus, my experience of it, and the crisis I was experiencing at that moment, every day for the month of May, which is Lupus Awareness Month internationally. (Lupus Awareness Month in the UK is in October or November, I believe, but since my friends are all over the world, I hold by international minhag*….) This year, with the blog and the isolation, it seems like a good year to revisit the practice of daily Lupus awareness. I am, of course, in isolation mainly because of the Lupus, so it’s an obvious connection.

Every day for the next month, therefore, I plan on posting the original post from 2016, which I put on Facebook. Some days, I may add to it, giving an update and a perhaps some relevant information to the current situation. Unlike the other posts on the blog so far, these are meant to start a conversation, and be a starting point for curiosity and education. During the original post series on Facebook, I got an incredible response from friends who had a million questions, all of which I loved to answer (or grapple with). I encourage you all to respond over the next month as and how you wish, without shame– there are no stupid questions. You can comment directly on the posts if you have a WordPress account, send me a message through the contact form on the About page of the blog, comment on the Facebook Page posts, or private message me through the Facebook Page. Please don’t hesitate to reach out! I love hearing from you.

Four years ago when I did it, I asked people for big questions that I could answer during the later days of the month, when I was running low on topics. That means that there is a post for every day already… but I can add questions this year to shorter posts and flesh things out for you this year! So if you have a big question, let me know, and I’ll either tell you that the answer will be coming up, or I’ll add an answer to one of the existing posts.

Happy May, everybody, and let’s hope all of us on the northern hemisphere start getting some proper Spring weather!

*Minhag is a bit of an inside Jewish joke, it has to do with variations in little traditions around observance that vary from household to household, over minute things like sitting or standing for the blessing on the wine.
